Pre-collection, resort, cruise, pre-spring, spring 1… A new way of thinking has emerged in the fashion industry. The traditional dual season model has evolved into more of a month-to-month focus on product and transitional collections.
Here are 8 reasons to warm up to Pre-Spring!
1. Get an earlier read on trends.
“Resort and Pre-Fall collections are essential for both brands and retailers. The merchandise presented in Resort and Pre-Fall collections often serves as an indicator of forthcoming trends in the major Fall/Winter or Spring/Summer collections.”
Melissa Moylan – VP, Creative Director – Womenswear, Fashion Snoops
2. ...And sell-through!
“From a profitability standpoint - this is the perfect way to get an early read on what your clients are responding to. The new (Pre-Fall) deliveries that trickle into my store in June and July allow me to gauge my customers reaction and go deeper into certain trends and colors for September and October while there is still time to react.”
Maureen Doron – Owner, Skirt
3. As pieces for a warm-weather getaway become buy-now-wear-now -- keep selling.
"Pre-collections are the most important delivery of the season as they allow for the longest selling time in store. They account for 75-80 percent of the total budget."
Jeffrey Kalinsky - Founder of iconic Jeffrey New York/Vice President/Designer and Fashion Director at Nordstrom
4. She wants it all, and she wants it now.
“Traditionally, you would see our show in either February or September, and you'd have to wait about six months in order to see the product in store. So we are essentially cutting that time in half. By showing in June, the product will already start shipping in early October. So what you see will be a much shortened time frame of being able to get your hands on the product.“
5. The best of the best, under one roof.
“Pre-Collection (also known as Resort, Spring 1 or Holiday) is an increasingly important delivery at the elevated portion of the market. Creating this centralized [pre]COTERIE platform allows us to bring together top global brands and retailers in an intimate and experiential setting.”
Danielle Licata, Women’s Fashion Director & Vice-President, COTERIE/UBM Fashion
6. Inspiration.
Launched in February 2017, The COTERIE Experience returns on a grander scale for the debut of [pre]COTERIE. Floor-to-ceiling art installations and immersive displays that combine branded content with inspiring décor will transport buyers, and press. The themes of growth, change, and disruption are conveyed via butterflies and vibrant exploding florals.
7. Immediate gratification.
In June, two [pre]COTERIE neighborhoods will offer combined wholesale and pop-up shopping experiences; Beauty and Vintage.
BEAUTY Beauty and apothecary items and brands, available wholesale and retail. A central marketplace for innovation, indulgence, self-care, fun, refreshing items that augment store experience. Brands include Immunocologie, Zero Gravity Skin and more.
VINTAGE Curated selection of vintage dealers showcasing on-of-a-kind apparel and accessories. Vendors include Vanessa’s Vintage, Morphew, Metropolis Vintage, Lulu’s Vintage Lovelies, Kitschtopia, Classic Coco Handbags, Another Man’s Treasure, and more.
8. Is June the new September?
From the CFDA Awards on June 4 to the Accessories Council ACE Awards on June 11; Resort Market is a key time to be in New York.
“Pre-collections allow a sneak peek into the main collections so that you can plan accordingly and spend your time and money more wisely. The designers are at their freshest and the collections are often my favorite of the season!”
Maureen Doron – Owner, Skirt
