From bright colors and florals to a flashback to the 60's and the 80's, the Spring/Summer 2020 New York Fashion Week collections delivered an eclectic array of trends. Take a look below at the top trends from the streets of New York City, presented by Fashion Snoops.

STREET STYLE TRENDS

Surf-Party-1.png

THEME: SURF PARTY

The surfer-girl trend is taking on a very glamorous look this season. Rubber active sandals paired up with a bright tie-dye bodysuit and topped off with ostrich feathers set the tone for this new look. Exposed swimwear, quirky patterns, and childlike jewelry are all juxtaposed with clean, sophisticated silhouettes that scream femininity.

Evening-Glamour-1.png

 THEME: EVENING GLAMOUR

A mood for old Hollywood glam was certainly felt throughout NYFW. This highly sophisticated and seductive look seems to be a reaction to the recent activewear-heavy trend that saturated the last several seasons of street style. Women were happy to enhance their elegance this season with softly draped gowns in silk lame, sheer chiffon, and heavy satin.

Deconstructed-Tailoring-1.png

THEME: DECONSTRUCTED TAILORING

Deconstructed tailoring continues to be a favorite look for modern city women. Unusual cutouts and skewed details make this look feel complex and handcrafted to distorted perfection.

Sculpted-Blazer-1.png

KEY ITEM: SCULPTED BLAZER

Nothing screams casual sophistication quite like a blazer draped over an understated ensemble. This season showed a range of silhouettes that all accentuated powerful shoulders. Color and print also played a major element as bright plaids and bold statement hues added a new vibe to this traditional look.

Billowy-Dress-1.png

KEY ITEM: BILLOWY DRESS

Full volume dresses made quite a statement this season with swooping hemlines and dramatic puffed sleeves. A gypsy style of tiered flares gave a voluminous effect, while puffed sleeves added extra fullness to the top achieving balance.

Pleated-Skirt-1.png

KEY ITEM: PLEATED SKIRT

Knife pleats continue on to be a strong trend this season. Pleated midi skirts showed off eye-catching patterns, uneven hemlines and color-blocking.

PATTERN + GRAPHICS: BRIGHT FLORALS

Florals continue to get brighter and brighter. Punchy sunshine hues mixed in with earthy greens and blues give these florals a vibrant appeal.

Plaid-1.png

PATTERN + GRAPHICS: PLAID

Plaid has proven to be an all year round pattern. This season we saw a rise in bright yellow plaid, while traditional colorways such as blue and green are still going strong.

60s-Retro-1.png

PATTERN + GRAPHICS: 60's RETRO

A 60's vibe was definitely felt this season with these retro patterns. A combination of flat geometric graphics mixed in with abstract shapes are highly reminiscent of Mid-Century Modern wallpaper decor.

Sheer-1.png

MATERIAL: SOFT SHEER

A seductive use of extra sheer fabrics was seen in cropped shirts, tunic tops, tiered dresses and skin tight bodysuits.

Spandex-1.png

MATERIAL: SPANDEX

Spandex is certainly one of the most comfortable and forgiving fabrics on the market, however, we're seeing a swim spandex coming to the forefront in Ready-to-Wear this season. Unitards, biker shorts and bodysuits all feature a second skin fit.
